Arsenal News: The Gunners dropped points as they drew 0-0 to Burnley on Sunday. The match was a clear indication of why Mikel Arteta should consider bringing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back into the team.
Mikel Arteta reportedly suspended Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after a disciplinary breach in December. The striker had reportedly returned late from a holiday.
Owing to this, Aubameyang was sidelined from the squad and was stripped of his captaincy. The striker has not played for Arsenal since, with reports even suggesting that he is not even allowed to train with the squad.
The Gabon-based striker travelled to Cameroon to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations. But he was found to be Covid positive on arrival and was quarantined. Aubameyang has since returned to London after reports indicated that he suffered a covid complication. Meanwhile, other reports are saying that he was sent for another disciplinary problem.
Should Arteta allow Aubameyang back into the Arsenal team?
Arsenal have been in horrible form since the turn of the New Year. The Gunners have not won any of their last five games in all competitions. To add to this, they were also knocked out of the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
Another worrying fact for Mikel Arteta would be that Arsenal have failed to score in their last four games. These include the matches against Nottingham Forest, the two-legged tie against Liverpool, and the recent 0-0 draw against Burnley.
As per the recent news, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was completely healthy after the heart scare that forced him to return to London. Hence, the striker would now be available for selection.
It is quite evident that Arsenal are struggling to find goals. Both Edward Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette have struggled to find form. Owing to this, the Gunners have had to rely on the likes of Saka, Martinelli, and Smith-Rowe to find the back of the net.
Even Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has struggled to find form, scoring just 4 Premier League goals this season. But the Gabonese international has 92 goals in 163 appearances. Hence, he could be Arsenal’s best bet for now.
Arsenal News: Dusan Vlahovic looks unlikely to sign for the Gunners
Arsenal have been on the lookout for strikers in the January transfer window. They have made Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic their main target and have even made a €60m bid for the Serbian.
But the striker does not seem very interested in joining Arsenal. Hence, it looks likely that he will stay in Fiorentina for now.
Aubameyang himself has received offers from a couple of Saudi Pro League clubs. But it would be for the best if Arsenal stick with him and give him another six months if they fail to sign another striker in January.
