Chelsea Transfer News: Chelsea is supposedly on the approach of signing Dylan Williams, an 18-year-old English wonderkid, to a contract this month, according to reports.
According to an exclusive story by The Sun, Dylan Williams is on the verge of completing his dream transfer to Chelsea during the current transfer window. Although the 18-year-old English defensive wonderkid will be allocated to the Blues’ under-23 team, the 18-year-old defender will be the club’s first signing this month.
Dylan Williams has only been at Derby County for a short period. But he has already had an impact on the team. Having joined the Championship club from Wolverhampton Wanderers as a teenager, the youthful prodigy has progressed quickly through the ranks. He has made his first-team debut in January 2021.
Since then, the 18-year-old has made a total of eight further appearances for Derby County. All of which have come during the current campaign.
The English left-back is a modern-day full-back who is strong defensively while also being a danger in the final third. Those characteristics might be put to use at a team like Chelsea. They have agreed to sign him this month after completing a deal.
Because of Ben Chilwell’s long-term knee injury, the West Londoners have been obliged to join the market for a left-wing-back this month. Chilwell’s absence has left Thomas Tuchel with Marcos Alonso as the sole logical option on the left wing, leaving him with little other choices than to use him.
Even though Kenedy has been returned from his loan stint with Flamengo, Tuchel is unlikely to make much use of the Brazilian.
Chelsea Transfer News: What will he bring to the table?
The Chelsea manager has been keen on bringing Emerson Palmieri back to Stamford Bridge from Lyon. But the Blues’ efforts have so far failed to bear fruit. The French club is reluctant to conclude the Italian international’s loan early.
As a result, the Premier League’s heavyweights have been forced to dip their toes into the market for a left wing-back. Lucas Digne is one of their first target players. Digne, on the other hand, just joined Aston Villa, prompting Chelsea to look for alternatives. Borna Sosa of Stuttgart is the latest left-back to be linked with a move to the club. Currently, they are in talks to sign Dylan Williams.
What Derby County manager said:
In a statement, Derby County manager Paul Jewell stated, “We have negotiated a price with a Premier League team for Dylan Williams, which is still being finalised as we speak. Given that I felt I couldn’t turn down the chance, this is a choice I made rather than one made by the club administration. After chatting with the youngster, I concluded that I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to give a young boy the chance to play in the Premier League.
I am not aware of the amount of the price; it has been agreed upon between the other club and the administration. I took charge of the situation and said that I wanted to meet with the player to find out how he felt about the situation. It is a tremendous chance for the player, which I recognise. As a result, I was delighted when he decided to leave the club to pursue a fresh opportunity elsewhere.”
Despite his impressive performances for Derby County’s first squad, Williams will most likely be allocated to Chelsea’s under-23 team. Chelsea will need to recruit another left-wing-back for their senior squad, with Layvin Kurzawa also on their list of potential targets.
