Manchester United News: Manchester United is finally functioning as a big club after years. The Red Devils want a new manager, and they are already planning to finalize a name for the summer window. To select the right manager, the club has taken the advice of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Manchester giants appointed Ralf Rangnick as the interim manager after they sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November. Hence, the race for appointing a long-term successor is on.
The German will be taking over as the consultancy role after his tenure as the interim manager gets over. The former RB Leipzig manager will be taking the role for two years at Old Trafford.
Rangnick has expressed his desire to continue as the permanent manager and that it’s on the board if they offer him the role. The gegenpressing maestro has picked up 17 points from a possible 24 on offer in the Premier League.
Manchester United News: What did Rangnick have to say then?
While speaking in December, he said: “I know that my role is for six months. I haven’t talked to anyone regarding summer. If they talk to me then, we will see.”
“If things go well for the club, I might recommend them the same thing that I did at RB Leipzig. I told them that one more year will be good. However, for now, it is all hypothetical.”
Ten Hag and Pochettino leading the race?
Multiple reports suggest that United will start the appointment process soon. The names in the mix are Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Julen Lopetegui, and Luis Enrique.
United is learning from their mistake and looking to appoint someone with European experience. England-based publication, Mirror Football revealed last month that Ajax boss Ten Hag has moved ahead of Pochettino to become the favourite for the job.
Ten Hag has taken Ajax to a whole different level with a squad that is not having big names. The Dutchman has helped the team to become genuine Champions League contenders. Ajax maintained a 100% record in the group stages this season.
But the club is not putting all its eggs in one basket. They are looking at Pochettino – currently, with Paris Saint-Germain – Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui and Spain manager Luis Enrique.
Manchester United News: Ronaldo prefers Enrique?
According to reports, Ronaldo identified Luis Enrique as the man for the job after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was until. Enrique is also identified by the United board as one of the names they are looking at.
The Portuguese captain rated Enrique highly. When the goal-scoring machine was at Real Madrid, he came up against Enrique’s Barcelona side, which won the treble in 2015.
Ten Hag remains the front runner, but things can change in the coming months. Enrique will have plenty of chances to impress the United hierarchy to make him their manager.
Ronaldo signed a contract till 2023 with an option of another year. The former Juventus man has expressed his unhappiness publicly in regard to the team’s position at the table. The number 7 wants the team to fight for titles and not just for top-four berths.
