US publisher launches unique book on FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

A book titled ‘FIFA 2022: Qatar, The Legacy’ was published by a major US publisher Nova recently. The book is authored and edited by Dr Qoronfleh from the US-based Q3CG Research Institute and Dr Essa from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. The unique and first-of-its-kind book is composed of 26 chapters where 10 chapters are contributed regionally from Kuwait and Oman while eight chapters are contributed from Qatar.
On December 2, 2010, FIFA announced that Qatar will be hosting 2022 FIFA World Cup, which makes Qatar the first country from the Middle East to host the tournament. Since, breathtaking developments ensued to prepare the country and its citizens for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Against this backdrop, the book aims to reach a diverse broad audience, including football fans from various parts of the world visiting Qatar for the first time. It is estimated that at least one million visitors would reach Qatar during the World Cup event. The book is informative, insightful and holistic. Yet, the contribution is intriguing enough for scholars and practitioners across the sport disciplines. Authors have carefully selected the themes and topics to cover highly relevant sport subjects in order to embrace and augment the sport entertainment debate. Moreover, they sought to symbolise and capture this unique memorable moment by providing a narrative of Qatar’s perspective and achievements.

The book chapters are presented as motifs and the discussion flows from the general to the specific. They introduced the concept of sport and why football is more than just a game followed by football infrastructure development and women’s participation in sport with a particular focus on Qatar. Then, proceeded to describe the economic case of hosting the FIFA World Cup and the unprecedented attention that the football game gets especially the World Cup including some of the climate/environment challenges plus the risk of communicable diseases the tournament may face with a brief mention to the game role in individual health. Afterwards, there are series of chapters discussing elite athletes’ performance in terms of nature vs nurture, nutrition and mental health state. Finally, few chapters are devoted to football fan experience where we highlight trends in smart stadium, sustainability innovations, and assistive technologies to enhance the sport aficionado experience and crowd management for security and safety.

Lastly, the authors thank football fans across the globe for their interest in Qatar and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. They hope this book could be a window for them into the game of football and the hosting country Qatar which is proving its readiness to host this mega tournament.
